Daasrae's 2.6 for the 10 furlongs was sec. better than Emrose's time lor the distance, and only outside the course record. Both mares are by the Imported sire Emborough. Like Emrose, who scored In the two Cups for trainer H. Reardon In 1948, Daasrae owned by her trainer, Mr.
J. R. McConachy. Daasrae, ridden by C. Barnes, won by a short head from Gay Felt in A photo finish, after the two had battled head and head over the Anal furlong.
In spite of her good Toowoomba Cup win last month, when Gay Felt. finished third to her, the mare drifted in the betting from fives. to start at the generous quote of 108. Gay Felt led for the first furlong. Jockey V.
Markey then took up A handy position be about fourth Into the straight. "I had it won to the last. 50 yards, He tired there because I lost my position and had to make use of him." Markey told Trainer Lester Zupp. The winner brought up the rear with Griffelt until the half mile, where she commenca sustained forward move which carried her into third position at the turn. Daasrae plugged on gamely under the whip to hold off Gay Felt, who came again at the Anish.
FAVOURITE'S LAPSE Shanalen, the even-money favourite, let his supporters down badly, He beat only three runners home, Jockey B. Tebb subsequently reported, to the stewards that his mount WAS in trouble near the two furlongs when he missed a run on the rails, and again In the straight where he had to be checked twice, Third place-getter, Amberstream, adopted the unusual role of pacemaker after they had settled down, but could not go on with it in the run home. The Mr. Standfast colt finished two lengths from the winner. Proud Monash, who was always fairly well placed, ran even race, but never really threatened.
Pale Tip, the joint leader down the straight the first time, gradully lost ground round the back stretch, but came home fairly well in Afth place. Monseigneur raised the hopes of his backers when he started a forward move as the Geld passed the half mile. He was second into the straight, the others finished all over and he tailed the feld in they ran to the judge. Last all the way to the home turn, Griffelt showed some well improvement by finishing fairly over the last 100yds. Standfelt, Dark Force, and Good Days, prominent early, were outclassed when the pressure WAS on.

He had ticket on each of the placed horses, and "wasn't fussy" which one came home.
After noting support tor Gold Cap In the first leg of the double, the Grange Flying Welter, he took out four tickets on this runner. Gold Cap duly won. and he decided to couple the Newcastle horse with the favourite (Royal Gaiety), and the three next beat-backed runners In the second leg. The Rivoll gelding was never further back than fourth, and had the front-runners, Sure Profit and Oramark covered as heads were turned for home. The "old boys" completely dominated the play in the second session, and were unlucky not to score on several more 0c- casions. The students played sound constructive football in the first half. and displayed better form than A week earlier. After 15 minute's play, centre Birch received the ball from scrum on the 25 line, and cut through the "old boys" defence to touch down under the ports, He converted this try. The second try was the of a rushing movement by the "firsts" forwards.
Meurant gained ground and sent Henderson over in the corner. The boys" opened their score when Hooper barged his way over from A line-out near the try-line. Guillemot scored their second try after 8 good massing movement had carried the balt from the half-way line. The "old boys" continued to press hard. and -hortly before the final whistle Hooper went over ngain to register the winning try.
